The Power of Napping

Today I took what I'm going to affectionately call a brainstorming nap.  Basically the whole time I was lying there awake, I was thinking about different story concepts. As I drifted off to sleep, some of these ideas started playing out as half-dreams, and then I'd think "oooh, that's good idea, Danielle's subconscious, but what if we do it like this instead..."  Once I fell asleep I just had normal dreams that were moderately to not very useful, but before I was really out of it was super fun and interesting.

I used to always think that I couldn't come up with good story ideas.  I tried, but I never liked any.  It was the same way I felt like I would never find my niche for business.  Well, I found that a couple years ago, and now it's like a switch flipped for story ideas.  I start daydreaming and I can come up with a lot of interesting concepts, just a sentence or two long.  A lot of them suck, but a handful are good.  I'm going to start keeping a journal of them, and I may even start fleshing out some of these ideas soon.  It's really not as hard as I used to think it was.  I think I was just psyching myself out and/or making it much harder than it needed to be.

Where do you find your inspirations?
